Recently, I learned a new word called “IP Drama”. It doesn’t mean the location of computer; in fact, the acronym stands for “Intellectual Property” which means one content can be transformed into various performances including movies, drama, song, online games etc. It's popular in mainland China, but it is best known as the drama of A Touch of Green and Rock Records in Love in Taiwan.
The trend of digital convergence comes so soon, not only the platforms but also the content. However, it seems that our government isn’t ready to face the challenge. When it comes to literature, music, TV, movie, comics and games, you will find they have different administrative organ. It's a big problem because communication doesn’t work very well when they have their own bosses and have no common decision.
Another problem is that we don't have people who are committed to do research and people who come from content industries. Therefore, we solve problems according to a crew civil servants without the experience of managing an enterprise, and that's why Taiwan are getting worse in decades. The business has crossed the border and found their way at this time, but the government still can't catch the point and follow up their steps.
In my opinion/I think, Taiwan should intimidate Korea to establish an institute like Kora Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) which assembles all kinds of content and benefit from a consistent decision. Unfortunately, we used to take many things for granted and ignore some problems that we have noticed, so that it has taken much time to go round in circles until now.
I don't know which administration can solve these problems, but there’s only one thing I know, the framework must adjust, if not, we will lose the last competitiveness in content industry forever.
